Yesterday we hosted a showumping clinic at Council Creek Farms in Ooltewah, TN (in the Chattanooga area). Our clinician was Roger Van Doren from South Africa via Franklin, TN. Roger has been my trainer for many years. He is a Grand Prix showjumping trainer and rider. Roger has a classical background in riding and teaches very technical riding. He has a very strong dressage foundation that he incorporates into his jumping.
It was a rainy day. It pretty much drizzled all day except during the very last lesson. We had a GREAT turnout! I met some wonderful kids, parents, and trainers. I loved seeing the smiles on their faces when they "got it". Roger works with younger students and teens very well. He has a great approach and is a very visual instructor. Everyone did amazing, and I am proud of everyone for toughing out the gross weather with us! It was a great day!
I will start having more clinicians come to the area. I am trying to keep clinics affordable (under $100 if I can) so that people have an opportunity to ride and grow their skills. This area really needs a lot of riding education. I will be bringing in people that have a correct and classical foundation in riding. It is important that riders are taught to ride correctly and with tact. Please stay tuned for upcoming clinics and events. We will also be having some unmounted clinic opportunities as well.
